What causes a low lying cecum in the pelvis?

There are multiple causes of low lying cecum in the pelvis. These include:

- Malrotation of the bowel during fetal development

- Lack of fixation of the cecum and ascending colon to the posterior abdominal wall

- Pelvic adhesions from previous surgeries or inflammatory processes

- Loss of the normal supportive structures from weakness of the abdominal muscles or after pregnancy
