What Is Adjunct Chemo?

Adjunct chemotherapy is a term used to describe chemotherapy when it is used as a secondary cancer treatment, as opposed to a primary treatment. Adjunct treatments are used to support and/or supplement the primary form of treatment.

    • Adjunct therapy is used to treat a variety of conditions, but it is most often associated with cancer treatment. It is any form of therapy that is used in addition to a separate primary treatment.

    Chemotherapy

    • Chemotherapy is a cancer treatment that uses a cocktail of different drugs to kill cancer cells. Adjunct chemotherapy is chemotherapy that is used to supplement another type of treatment, such as surgery or radiation therapy.

    Function

    • The function of chemotherapy is to kill cancer cells and reduce the risk of future recurrences. This is true whether the chemotherapy is being used as a primary or an adjunct treatment.
