How to Tie Square Scarves
-
1
Place the scarf onto a flat work surface and smooth it flat. Bring one corner over to the opposite corner to fold it into a triangle shape. Smooth it flat again.
-
2
Grasp the scarf by the two triangle points along the folded edge and place the scarf on your head with the folded edge along the top of your forehead. Bring the two triangle points you are holding around to the back of your head and hold them over the third triangle point laying at the nape of your neck.
-
3
Tie the two points you are holding together over the third point (the third point is not part of the knot). An optional step is to slip an elastic hair band over the ends of the scarf and position it at the knot. Pull part of each end of the scarf through the hair band to create loops and give the knot more fullness.
-
4
Leave the knot at the center back of your neck or rotate it to either side just behind your ear.
How to Tie Long Scarves
-
5
Place the scarf onto a flat work surface and smooth it flat. Fold the scarf in half widthwise and smooth it flat again.
-
6
Lift the scarf carefully and place it on your head so that the center point of the folded edge is at the top of your forehead. Bring both ends of the scarf around to the back of your head and cross the ends of the scarf so that they overlap each other.
-
7
Bring the scarf end from the left side of your head around the right side of your head and back up to the front. Bring the scarf end from the right side of your head around the left side of your head and back up to the front.
-
8
Overlap the two scarf ends again at the top of your forehead. Bring them back around to the back of your head a second time.
-
9
Tie the two scarf ends together in a knot at the nape of your neck. Tuck the ends in under the scarf or leave them out to cascade down your back (gives the illusion of hair in a ponytail).
