Side Effects of Flagyl Doxy Chemotherapy

Flagyl Doxycycline is antibiotic mixture of flagyl also known as metronidazole and doxycycline that is used in the prevention of bacterial infections during chemotherapy. Flagyl guards against bacteria that require less oxygen to live and doxycyclene can treat a variety of infections including pneumonia and anthrax. While both are used in the prevention and treatment of infections in an immune-compromised body, they do have side effects.

Flagyl Lesser Side Effects

• While Flagyl is usually well tolerated in the body, there can be some side effects including nausea, headaches, a metallic taste, loss of appetite and rash. All of these can be handled using over-the-counter medication.

Flagyl Serious Side Effects

• Occasionally, Flagyl can create serious side effects and patients should seek medical attention immediately. Serious side effects include seizures and nerve damage. The nerve damage can create numbness and the tingling of extremities.

Doxycycline Lesser Side Effects

• The lesser side effects of Doxycycline are more severe than those of Flagyl and patients should seek a doctor if they experience photosensitivity, nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach, loss of appetite and difficulty swallowing.

Doxycycline Serious Side Effects

• Serious side effects of Doxycyclene include stomach cramps, watery diarrhea, joint pain, fever, bloody stools, blurred vision and rash. If you experience any of these symptoms, stop taking the drug immediately and call a physician.

Drug Interactions

• Both Doxycycline and Flagyl can also have interactions with other drugs. Doxycycline can reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills and cause tooth discoloration in children. Flagyl can interact with blood thinners and antidepressants such as Lithium.
