Signs & Symptoms of Colonic Cancer

It is fairly common for people with colon cancer to not experience any signs or symptoms when the disease is in its early stages. However, everyone is different and there can be symptoms as it progresses. Signs vary, depending on the colonic cancer's location in your large intestine and its size.
  1. Changes

    • Changes in bowel habits over a period of more than two weeks may indicate colon cancer. This includes if you experience constipation, diarrhea or a different stool consistency in your stool.

    Pain

    • Cramps and abdominal pain may point to colon cancer. The pain would occur when you're having a bowel movement. It may also be accompanied by gas.

    Bleeding

    • Seek a doctor's advice if you experience rectal bleeding or notice there is blood in your stool. Colon cancer could be the culprit.

    Considerations

    • Additional symptoms or signs of colonic cancer include weight loss that can't be explained, a weak or tired feeling and a feeling that your bowel is not emptying completely.

    Identification

    • It's important to note that bloody stool can point to other conditions as well as colonic cancer. If there is bright red blood present, it most likely is caused by minor tears in the anus or hemorrhoids. Certain foods and supplements can also change the color of your stool.

    Warning

    • Talk to a doctor if you notice any blood in your stool or changes to its consistency. The key to treating colonic cancer effectively is to catch it as early as possible.
