What does thromophlebitis mean?

Thrombophlebitis refers to a medical condition characterized by inflammation (phlebitis) and the formation of a blood clot (thrombosis) within a vein. It typically occurs in superficial veins and is often noticeable as red, swollen, tender, and warm veins close to the skin's surface. Thrombophlebitis can affect leg veins, commonly the saphenous veins, leading to discomfort and increased risk of developing more serious deep vein thrombosis (DVT) if left untreated.
