Test to show irritation and scarring of esophagus?

The most commonly used test to show irritation and scarring of the esophagus is an endoscopy.

An endoscopy is a procedure in which a thin, flexible tube with a camera on the end is inserted into the esophagus. This allows the doctor to directly visualize the lining of the esophagus and look for any signs of irritation or scarring.

In addition to endoscopy, other tests that can help diagnose esophageal irritation and scarring include:

Upper GI series: This is a series of X-rays that can show the inside of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

Esophageal manometry: This test measures the pressure in the esophagus to check for problems with swallowing.

Biopsy: This involves taking a small sample of tissue from the esophagus for examination under a microscope.

These tests can help diagnose the cause of esophageal irritation and scarring and determine the best course of treatment.
