Are red blood cells somatic cells?

Red blood cells are not somatic cells. Somatic cells are all the cells in the body other than the sex cells (gametes). Red blood cells are specialized cells that carry oxygen throughout the body and do not have a nucleus or other organelles that are necessary for cell division. Red blood cells are formed in the bone marrow through a process called hematopoiesis.
