Impaired Albumin Production: The liver plays a crucial role in synthesizing albumin, a protein that helps maintain fluid balance in the body. In liver cancer, the liver's ability to produce albumin may be compromised, leading to low albumin levels. This can cause fluid to leak out of the blood vessels and into the peritoneal cavity, resulting in ascites.

Increased Pressure in the Portal Vein: The portal vein is a blood vessel that carries blood from the intestines and other abdominal organs to the liver. In liver cancer, the growth of tumors can obstruct the portal vein, leading to increased pressure within the vein. This condition, known as portal hypertension, can cause fluid to accumulate in the peritoneal cavity, contributing to ascites.

Liver Cirrhosis: Advanced liver cancer can lead to liver cirrhosis, a condition characterized by scarring and damage to the liver. Cirrhosis itself can cause portal hypertension and ascites, independent of the cancerous tumors.

Peritoneal Carcinomatosis: In some cases, liver cancer can spread to the peritoneum, the membrane lining the abdominal cavity.
