Signs & Symptoms of a Patient Condition Due to Lung Cancer

According to the Mayo Clinic, lung cancer causes more deaths in the United States than any other kind of cancer. In its earliest stages, lung cancer may not show any symptoms at all, but as the condition progresses, the signs and symptoms can become very noticeable. The methods used to diagnose lung cancer include imaging tests such as x-rays and MRIs, blood tests and tissue samples. Treatment of lung cancer includes surgical removal of the damaged lung tissue, chemotherapy medication or radiation therapy.

  1. Cough

    • A cough is one of the symptoms of lung cancer. At first it will be a dry cough that does not seem to go away. As time goes by, the cough becomes more chronic and prevalent. Eventually this symptom could evolve into coughing up blood.

    Labored Breathing

    • Your breathing will change as part of the symptoms of lung cancer. You will start to have shortness of breath that will become most noticeable after even the slightest physical activity. Your breathing will become labored and be accompanied by wheezing. You will also begin to experience chest pains along with breathing.

    Bronchitis

    • Bronchitis is an infection in the lungs that leads to difficulty breathing and coughing up phlegm. As lung cancer advances, you may experience a recurring case of bronchitis that will get worse over time.

    Swelling

    • As the lung cancer spreads, you may begin to see the lymph nodes in your neck and face begin to swell and turn the surface of your skin to a bright red color.

    Weight Loss

    • You will begin to lose your appetite as the condition evolves, and this will result in rapid weight loss. This can also lead to fatigue.

    Joint Pain

    • An advanced symptom of lung cancer is pain in the bones and joints. Your bones will become sensitive to the touch, and it will be painful to use your joints for even the slightest movement.

    Hedaches

    • Headaches associated with lung cancer start out inconspicuous at first. Over time they become more persistent and more painful.
