What is small cell lung cancer?

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive type of lung cancer that is characterized by the presence of small, round cancer cells. It is the least common type of lung cancer, accounting for about 10% of all cases.

SCLC is most often found in people who smoke, and it is more common in men than women. It is also more likely to occur in people who are exposed to secondhand smoke, asbestos, or other lung irritants.

SCLC is a fast-growing cancer that can spread to other parts of the body quickly. It is often diagnosed at an advanced stage, when it is more difficult to treat. However, there are some treatments available that can help to slow the growth of the cancer and improve symptoms.

Symptoms of SCLC can include:

* A cough that does not go away

* Chest pain

* Shortness of breath

* Wheezing

* Hoarseness

* Loss of appetite

* Weight loss

* Fatigue

* Night sweats

If you have any of these symptoms, it is important to see your doctor right away. SCLC can be treated, but it is important to start treatment as early as possible.
