Is B Cell Lymphoma Curable?

B cell lymphoma is a form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma that attacks B lymphocytes, or B cells, in the lymph system. Several types of B cells are used to create antibodies that the body uses to fight bacteria and viruses.
  1. Diffuse Large B Cell

    • Diffuse large B cells with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma often respond well to chemotherapy treatment and about half of patients with this type of B cell lymphoma are cured by this treatment, according to the American Cancer Society.

    Follicular Lymphoma

    • Follicular lymphoma is hard to cure but tends to grow slowly. Patients without symptoms may not be treated unless this form of B cell lymphoma changes to a diffuse B cell lymphoma.

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and Small Lymphocytic Leukemia

    • Forms of B cell lymphoma called chronic lymphocytic leukemia and small lymphocytic leukemia are usually not curable but these forms of the disease tend to be slow growing.

    Mucosa Associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphoma

    • Mucosa associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma, or MALT lymphoma, can often be cured in its early stages with antibiotic treatment.

    Burkitt Lymphoma

    • Burkitt lymphoma is a fast growing form of B cell lymphoma and about half of patients can be cured with intensive chemotherapy treatment.
