How many people die of measles?
Measles is a highly contagious infectious disease caused by a virus. It can cause serious complications, such as pneumonia and encephalitis, and can even lead to death. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2018, there were an estimated 140,000 measles-related deaths globally, the highest number in over a decade. Most of these deaths occurred in low-income and middle-income countries, and among children under the age of five. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent measles and its complications, and the WHO recommends that all children receive two doses of the measles vaccine.
