How to Donate the Minimum Length of Hair

Cancer patients get wigs to give themselves a sense of normalcy during a time that is certainly not normal. These wigs are made of real hair that is donated by caring individuals when they get a haircut. To ensure that the hair arrives in usable condition, certain minimum requirements regarding length and other issues must be adhered to. These standards make sure that anyone who needs a wig to feel normal will be able to find exactly what she needs.

Instructions

    • 1

Tell your stylist what you are planning, including the fact that you only wish to donate the minimum amount, which ranges from six to 12 inches depending on the organization you donate to.

    • 2

Ensure your hair is clean before the stylist begins cutting it. It must also be dry before the donated hair may be cut. Also, check the guidelines for your organization if your hair is colored or bleached. Some companies will accept this hair and others will not.

    • 3

Place your hair in ponytails at both ends or a braid before donating, to keep it together during the mailing process.

    • 4

Send your donation in an envelope to the appropriate address for the organization you wish to donate to. You can also include a card with your name and address if you wish to receive acknowledgement of your gift.
