Cancer Patient Grants

For patients living with cancer, paying for medical, transportation or even prescription costs can be quite prohibitive. Many cancer societies and organizations offer grant funds to individuals to assist them in paying for these extra expenses. Grants usually only total a few hundred dollars, and there are only a limited number given out each year.
  1. Healthcare Provider Grant Program

    • The Healthcare Provider Grant Program is administered by the Lymphoma Research Foundation, and assists uninsured or under-insured patients who need help paying for medical bills associated with their treatment. These funds are given directly to health care providers for costs that the patient's insurance does not cover and that the patient cannot afford. Generally, grant amounts will only be a percentage of the total cost of the unpaid medical bills, and amounts will be determined on a case-by-case basis. To be eligible, applicants must show that they need financial help, and they must be currently receiving lymphoma treatment. This should also be the first time that applicants have applied for this program.

    Patient Financial Aid

    • The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) offers small grants to patients who can demonstrate extreme financial need, and who are currently under the care of a doctor for some type of blood cancer. These grants are distributed by local chapters of LLS, and funds are given directly to the patient. To be eligible, patients must be residents of the United States or territories, or they must be current military personnel who are stationed outside the country. Only a limited number of grants are available each year, and grant amounts will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Interested parties can either request applications from their local offices or fill out an application online.

These funds can be used for travel expenses, evaluation fees, phone bills or similar expenses. Eligible patients will receive up to $350 in reimbursements for these expenses, and this grant is open to patients with all types of sarcoma. Applicants must submit an itemized expense report and their receipts. Living expenses like rent, food, clothing, automobile and rent will not be eligible for reimbursements.
