Social Security Disability for Uterine Cancer

Social Security disability benefits in the U.S. provide financial assistance if you're incapacitated. In some cases, family members may also be able to receive benefits as a result of your disability. If you've been diagnosed with uterine cancer and are unable to work, you should apply immediately for Social Security disability benefits.
  1. Determination

    • The determination of whether you qualify for disability benefits will be made by the Social Security Administration based on your age and whether you've paid Social Security taxes long enough to qualify. You may also qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) if your income and resources are limited.

    Application Review

    • It usually takes three to five months for an application to be reviewed. However, if your condition is dire, compassionate allowances are applied, and your case will be given a fast-track status.

    Appeals

    • If your application has been denied, you have 60 days to appeal. There are four levels of the appeal process, and in the majority of cases, denials are overturned. If your denial is overturned, you will receive all back monies owed.

    Misconceptions

    • Your disability benefits do not begin immediately. You will not receive a disability check until the sixth full month after you were unable to work as a result of your uterine cancer. Also, you don't have to apply for benefits in person or over the phone. You can apply online.

    Warning

    • Provide all the personal and work-related information requested on the application, and make sure your doctor provides detailed information. The more information provided, the more likely your application will be accepted.
