The Best Cancer Treatment Hospitals for Women

U.S. News and World Report evaluated more than 5,000 hospitals in the United States to come up with a list of the best cancer treatment hospitals. Cancer specialists were surveyed, and hospitals were ranked based on inpatient care. The following are the top five cancer treatment hospitals in the nation.

  1. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

    • MD Anderson Cancer Center scored a 100. The hospital is located in Houston, Texas, and is known around the world for its dedication to cancer patient care, research, treatment, prevention and education. In the area of gynecologic oncology, the hospital has received accolades for its research, especially for the Blanton-Davis Ovarian Cancer Research Program. The program was the nation's first formal comprehensive ovarian cancer research program.

    Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

    • Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) scored a 94.1. The hospital is located in New York and belongs to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. MSKCC doctors are also leaders in radiation therapy. This hospital is dedicated to developing new chemotherapy drugs that are safer and more effective.

    Johns Hopkins Hospital

    • Johns Hopkins Hospital scored a 62.6. It is located in Baltimore, Maryland. Doctors are conducting clinical trials on a new test that can help detect a woman's risk for developing breast cancer. They describe the test as "the pap smear for breast cancer." It helps determine cells in the breast that may be susceptible to developing cancer before they are actually cancerous.

    Mayo Clinic

    • Mayo Clinic is located in Rochester, Minnesota. It scored a 59.6. Patients from the United States and 150 foreign countries travel to receive treatment at the hospital. The Mayo Clinic has one of the largest ovarian cancer practices in the United States, treating more than 1,200 patients in 2006.

    Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

    • Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston scored a 48.6. The hospital boasts that it staffs some of the best and brightest physicians and researchers in the world. Dana-Farber staff are known as leaders in care for cancer survivors by offering counseling about health challenges they may face as a result of treatment, and about steps that can reduce the risk of future problems.
