What Is Pelvic Cancer?

Pelvic cancer is cancer of one of the organs in your pelvic area. Possible types of cancer in your pelvis include all the cancers of the male and female reproductive organs.
  1. Cervical Cancer

    • Cervical cancer is cancer of the cervix. The cervix connects the uterus to the vagina. This slow growing cancer often has no symptoms, so yearly PAP tests are required to detect any problems.

    Uterine and Endometrial Cancers

    • Uterine cancer forms in the muscle or tissue of the uterus and presents more after menopause. Endometrial cancer occurs in the tissue that lines the uterus. Most often this cancer begins in cells that make or release mucus or other fluids.

    Ovarian Cancer

    • Ovarian cancer occurs in one or both of the ovaries, and can form on the surface of the ovary or in the egg cells.

    Vaginal and Vulvar Cancers

    • Vaginal cancer forms in the vagina or birth canal. Vulvar cancer presents in the external female genital organs. Vulvar cancer can affect the clitoris, vaginal lips and vaginal opening.

    Male Pelvic Cancers

    • Testicular cancer presents on one or both of the testicles. Testicular cancer can begin the cells that forms sperm or the cells that make male hormones. Penile cancer is a rare cancer that usually forms in the cells that form the inner lining of the penis.
