Signs & Symptoms of Sinus Tumors in Children

Endodermal sinus tumors are a malignant tumor in young children. Endodermal sinus tumors could be on the uterus, vagina, testes, abdomen, liver, ovaries or general tailbone region of the child. Depending on the severity and location of the tumors, symptoms will vary.
  1. Asymptomatic

    • In any stage the tumor might be in, a child might have no symptoms at all. There could be no swelling or pain--literally no symptoms, so the tumor goes unnoticed.

    Swelling

    • No matter where the endodermal sinus tumor is located, very noticable swelling of the affected region could be present, helping to pinpoint the tumor's location.

    Altered Bowel Haits

    • Because the tumors are mainly in the lower abdominal region, they might be large enough to be pushing and putting pressure on the bowels, making it hard for bowel movements to pass through normally.

    Irregular Blood Tests

    • When blood tests are done on a child with suspected endodermal sinus tumor, elevated alpha-fetoprotein and beta-human chorionic gonadotropin results are prevalent. according to the website of Stanford University's Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.

    Pain

    • Depending on the tumor's location and size, pain could be associated with the endodermal sinus tumor. This pain can range from mild and barely noticeable to very severe.

    Other Symptoms

    • As with an illness and its severity, other symptoms could be nausea, vomiting, headache, fever, cough, chest pain, fatigue, breathing difficulty or vision impairment.
