First Sign of Cancer

There are more than 100 varieties of cancer, with different symptoms and a number of different causes, according to James F. Balch, M.D., co-author of Prescription for Nutritional Healing. However, several warning signs are common to all types of cancer.

Indigestion

• One warning sign of cancer is indigestion or difficulty swallowing.

Skin Symptoms

• A sore on the body that doesn't heal or an obvious change in a wart or mole are both possible signs of cancer. Thickening or a lump in the breast or elsewhere on the body may also be a sign of cancer.

Cough

• A nagging cough or hoarseness can be a sign of cancer.

Pain

• When cancer begins to grow in the body and invade tissues, it may cause pain.

Weight Loss

• While weight loss is more extensive in the later stages of cancer, it can also be present in the early stage of cancer. Weight loss can also be caused by a number of other health problems.

Discharge

• Unusual discharge or bleeding may be a sign of cancer.
