Early Signs of Kidney Cancer

According to the American Cancer Society, kidney cancer, or renal cell cancer, occurs when cancerous cells are found in the tubules of one or both kidneys. Urine passes through the kidneys into the bladder, so the kidneys act as a filter for urine. There are some signs and symptoms to look for if you suspect kidney cancer.

  1. Blood

    • One of the most common signs of kidney cancer is blood in the urine. This may be a sign of another condition, but it is very important to have it checked by a doctor.

    Lump

    • If a lump is found, it may be a sign of kidney cancer. Normally the lump will present in the side or lower back, but it might be anywhere in the abdomen.

    Pain

    • Pain in the side that does not go away and was not caused by an injury may be a symptom of kidney cancer. The pain will most likely be present in the lower back on either side.

    Anemia

    • Anemia is possibly a sign of kidney cancer. Anemia occurs when the red blood cell count is low, and a doctor should bring this to your attention.

    Weight Loss

    • Sudden weight loss with no explanation, and swelling of the ankles and legs, could be a sign of kidney cancer. Get medical attention promptly.
