Uterine Cancer Treatment
Uterine cancer is a cancer of the uterus and surrounding structures. Endometrial cancer, or a cancer of the uterine lining, is the most frequent type of uterine cancer. There are many types of treatment available, and many options if the uterine cancer is caught early.-
Radiation
-
Radiation therapy is used to kill the cancer cells that are attacking the the uterus.
Removal of Cancers
-
Surgery is often preformed to remove the cancerous lesions from in and around the uterus.
Chemotherapy
-
Chemotherapy can be used to stop the cancer in the uterus. In this procedure, chemicals known to fight cancer cells are injected into the body.
Hormone Therapy
-
Therapy using only hormones can be used in the treatment of uterine cancer. Endometrial cancer is a hormone-dependent disease. Therefore, hormonal therapy added to standard treatments may improve the outcome in the early stages of the disease (see Resources).
Hysterectomy
-
Hysterectomy, usually the last line of defense, is the complete removal of the uterus from the body.
