Natural Prevention of Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer begins in ovaries with the formation of tumors. These tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). There are many non-standard methods of cancer prevention and treatment currently being researched. The American Cancer Society website provides detailed information on alternative preventative measures.
  1. LIfestyle Changes

    • Here are a few steps you can take to possibly prevent ovarian cancer from developing. If you are overweight, develop a weight-loss routine. Carrying around extra weight is not only unhealthy, it increases your risk for developing cancer. Make sure you participate in physical activity at least 30 minutes daily. Exercise helps you maintain a healthy weight and boosts the immune system. You should try to sleep at least eight to 10 hours a night. Regular sleep habits support the endocrine systems that can suppress cancer development. Work on reducing stress levels. Emotional well-being is an important defender against cancer

    Dietary Changes

    • Incorporate foods that are rich in anti-oxidants into your diet. This includes consuming more whole grains, fruits, organic vegetables and legumes. Fruits and vegetables contain cancer-fighting compounds. Vegetables in the cruciferous family (broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, mustard greens, kale, and cauliflower) contain high amounts of those compounds. Limit your daily intake of salt and sugar, including consuming foods with high levels of both. Try to eat more natural foods. Stay away from those that are preserved, canned or smoked. These foods contain nitrates, which have been linked to cancer.

    Other Considerations

    • Cleaning solutions and detergents contain chemicals that are carcinogenic (cancer causing). Limit their use or switch to natural cleaning agents to avoid exposure. Avoid cosmetics that contain formaldehyde and sodium lauryl sulfate. They contain nitrosamines that are also carcinogenic. Switch to beauty products and toiletries that contain natural ingredients.
