Can you live with a blocked pancreas?
The pancreas produces digestive enzymes that break down carbohydrates, proteins, and fats in the food we eat. Without these enzymes, the body would not be able to properly digest and absorb nutrients from food, leading to malnutrition and other health problems.
In addition, the pancreas produces hormones, including insulin and glucagon, which regulate blood sugar levels. Insulin helps cells take in glucose from the blood for energy, while glucagon helps release glucose into the blood when levels are low. A blockage in the pancreas can disrupt the production of these hormones, leading to diabetes or other serious complications.
If the pancreas is completely blocked, it can also cause a buildup of toxic substances in the body, which can damage other organs and systems. Without medical intervention, a complete blockage of the pancreas is ultimately fatal.
