What is removed when having a radical prostatectomy?

When a person has a radical prostatectomy, the entire prostate gland is removed, along with some of the surrounding tissue and lymph nodes. This includes the base of the bladder, the seminal vesicles, and the vas deferens. The surgeon may also remove some of the pelvic lymph nodes to check for the spread of cancer.
