What is the Milken Diet?
The Milken diet is named for Michael Milkin, a philanthropist who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1993. Milkin was told that his condition was terminal and that he had about one year to live. He survived the odds and has since popularized his story, attributing his success to his strict diet and lifestyle habits.-
Weight Control and Regular Exercise
-
The diet encourages a healthy weight -- one that can be established with the help of your doctor. Regular exercise -- at least 30 minutes three times a week -- is recommended.
Fruits and Vegetables
-
The Milken diet recommends five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables daily and strongly favors broccoli. These are to be consumed without dressing or sauces. Additionally, eat tomato sauce twice per week and consume a glass of pomegranate juice daily.
Meat and Fish
-
The diet recommends that red meat intake should be reduced and replaced with fish and vegetables. When consuming red meat and fish, be mindful of not grilling it, as grilling is carcinogenic. Additionally, be mindful of not over-consuming fish with high levels of mercury.
