Herbal Prostate Cancer Cure

While they will not cure prostate cancer, herbal remedies can reduce the severity of the disease.   1. Saw Palmetto

    • This herb is derived from the berries that are produced from the saw palm tree, which grows in the southeastern United States. Saw palmetto benefits the prostate by inhibiting the production of DHT, a testosterone that is the main cause of prostate enlargement. By reducing the amount of DHT and estrogen in the system, the prostate will get smaller and thus eliminate many complications that can arise from an enlarged prostate gland. According to the Mayo Clinic, saw palmetto will effectively reduce the size of an enlarged prostate and treat urinary complications that are associated with this disease. For most men, results from taking this herb are noticeable within one to three months. Always speak with your doctor before taking this herb.

      Take a total of 320 milligrams per day, split into two servings of 160 milligrams. Saw palmetto is available in tablet and capsule form. Either form will introduce the proper amount of saw palmetto into the system. Take this supplement with 8 ounces of water.

    Lycopene

    • Lycopene is a natural antioxidant that is found in tomatoes, grapefruits and apricots. Since cancer cells are formed by an excess of free radicals within the body, by dramatically increasing the dosage of antioxidants you will be able to decrease the amount of these harmful compounds. In a 2001 study of the effects of lycopene, those prostate cancer patients who took 30 milligrams of lycopene per day showed a decrease in tumor size as well as a decrease in plasma PSA (prostate specific antigen).

      To get the benefits of lycopene, increase the amount of fresh tomatoes you eat. Eat at least 10 servings of tomatoes per week to introduce a high level of lycopene into the system. Tablet and capsule supplements also are available.
