Male Prostate Symptoms
Prostate problems are most commonly found in males past the age of 40. The most common prostate problem is a swelling of the prostate which could be an infection, or it could be the beginning stages of cancer. To diagnose the condition there are a series of urology exams that examine the strength of the urine stream, the amount of urine left in the bladder after urinating, and the urine itself, which will be checked for infection. Blood tests are taken to check for cancer and any other infection, and an imaging test is done to check the extent of blockage.-
Incontinence
-
Incontinence means an inability to control when or where you urinate. When it is associated with a prostate problem, incontinence can create symptoms such as constantly needing to urinate, an inability to urinate when you feel you do need to go, and experiencing very strong and sudden needs to urinate even at night. A common symptom of urinary incontinence is having strong urges to urinate two or three times during the course of the night.
Retention and Infection
-
Prostate problems can cause a symptom known as urinary retention. This is when you are unable to completely clear your bladder when you urinate. This is one of the things that will cause the frequent urges to urinate as your bladder always feels as though it needs to be emptied. When you do not empty your bladder, the remaining urine could start to cause urinary tract infections that can make urinating painful.
Painful Urination
-
Inflammation of the prostate will put pressure on your urinary bladder. This pressure can make urinating extremely painful. The pain is similar to a burning sensation each time you urinate. You may also notice that blood is mixing in with your urine. There may be a small amount of blood at first, but as the infection advances you may notice more blood mixing in with your urine.
Weak Stream
-
A common symptom of a prostate problem is a weak urine stream. You may notice that your urine is a different and darker color, and your urine stream will start to become narrow. It is also possible that the stream may be replaced by drops of urine that dribble from the bladder as opposed to creating any stream at all.
Testicular Symptoms
-
Prostate problems may create symptoms in the testicles. You may have pain in the testicles that is chronic and constant, or you may only experience pain during ejaculation but it would be a very sharp and severe pain. You may also begin to notice blood mixed in with your semen.
