How to Get a Golden Tan

A golden tan is often considered to be a simple way to make anybody look better. While tanning can produce a nice look, it is important to take proper precautions when tanning, as too much exposure to the UV rays which lead to a deep tan can lead to skin cancer down the line and sunburn in the short term. There is a misconception that sunscreen lotion will prevent tanning. You can still get a beautiful tan with protective lotion on. The lotion simply reduces the level of UV rays reaching your skin, making it take longer to tan, but also giving a larger window in which to stop to keep your golden tan from becoming a red burn.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a tanning lotion before going in the sun or tanning bed to increase the rate at which you tan.

    • 2

Apply any lotion you decide to use evenly. If you apply sunscreen to one part of your body, but miss others, the parts that do not receive lotion will be tanner, or may burn. On the flip side, applying a tanning lotion on some skin but not other skin will cause the area with lotion to tan more, making you uneven.

    • 3

Lie out in the sun in an open area where you do not have to worry about shade passing over parts of your body. If part of your body ends up in the shade while the rest is out, it will not tan as much, causing an uneven look.

    • 4

Use a tanning bed if it is too cold outside to lie out comfortably. Tanning beds feature UV bulbs which simulate the rays of the sun.

    • 5

Move out of the sun if you feel yourself starting to burn, which you can note through physical pain or pealing of the skin. Too much exposure will turn your golden tan into an unattractive red burn.

    • 6

Use a spray tan or a rub on tan for a quick, sun-free tan. Tanning applications are dyes that can give you a nearly instantaneous tan.
