What does melanophages mean?

Melanophages are macrophages (phagocytic white blood cells) that contain melanin, a pigment that gives color to the skin and hair. Melanophages are found in the dermis, the middle layer of the skin, and are responsible for removing melanin from damaged or dying cells. They also play a role in the immune response, helping to protect the body from infection and disease.
