How to Know About Basal Cell Skin Cancer

Basal cell skin cancer is one of the most common forms of skin cancer. It is also the most easily detected and least life threatening form of of skin cancer. It can appear as a regular skin rash or as an unusual sore on the nose, ears or arms or underarms and not limited only to the face.

      Understand that the underlying cause of basal cell skin cancer is exposure to the sun. This exposure could go back to sun bathing when you were a teen and remains dormant for the better part of a lifetime before revealing itself. Sun lamp tanning also could also been a cause of skin cancer.

      Skin cancer is usually not found on parts of the body that the sun did not shine on. Basal Cell Carcinoma can be found on the legs, face, ears, neck and even the scalp and other areas that were exposed to direct sunlight without using the proper strength of sunscreen lotion.

      Check out your body often for any changes or signs of what might look like an innocent rash or sore that does not go away. What it appears like can vary depending on how long you have had it and whether it has spread and enlarged. It also might look like any skin condition such as psoriasis or eczema.

      See a skin doctor (dermatologist)as soon as you notice anything unusual on your body especially your arms and legs. Have someone check areas that you cannot easily see like your back and scalp. If you see anything that you had not seen previously see your skin doctor immediately to get a skin biopsy and immediate surgery to have it removed. Usually the surgery is done in the office under a local anesthesia if it is found in its early stages.
