What foods to avoid if you have esophagus cancer?

Foods that may worsen esophageal cancer symptoms:

- Hot liquids and foods: These can irritate the already inflamed esophageal lining.

- Spicy foods: Spices and hot peppers, including pepper, chili powder, and cayenne pepper, can irritate the esophagus and cause pain and inflammation.

- Sugary and acidic foods: These foods, including citrus fruits, fruit juices, and carbonated beverages, can worsen acid reflux, a common symptom of esophageal cancer.

- Hard or chewy foods: These foods, such as nuts, raw vegetables, and tough meats, can be difficult to swallow and can cause pain and discomfort.

- Fried or fatty foods: These can aggravate gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a risk factor for esophageal cancer, and worsen symptoms such as heartburn and chest pain.

- Alcohol: Excessive alcohol consumption can irritate the esophageal lining and increase the risk of esophageal cancer.

- Caffeine: Caffeine can worsen acid reflux and esophageal irritation, especially in individuals with underlying conditions like GERD or hiatal hernia.
