What are the causes of gallbladder cancer?

* Age: The risk of gallbladder cancer increases with age. Most people who develop gallbladder cancer are over 65 years old.

* Gender: Women are more likely to develop gallbladder cancer than men.

* Race: Native Americans are at the highest risk of gallbladder cancer.

* Obesity: Obese people are more likely to develop gallbladder cancer than people of normal weight.

* Diabetes: People with diabetes are more likely to develop gallbladder cancer.

* Smoking: Smoking cigarettes is a risk factor for gallbladder cancer.

* Family history: People with a family history of gallbladder cancer are more likely to develop the disease.

* Gallbladder polyps: Gallbladder polyps are not cancerous, but they can sometimes develop into gallbladder cancer.

* Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC): PSC is a rare disease that causes inflammation and scarring of the bile ducts. People with PSC are at an increased risk of developing gallbladder cancer.

It is important to note that these are just some of the risk factors for gallbladder cancer. Having one or more of these risk factors does not mean that you will definitely develop the disease.
