When to take pregnancy test after map?

The effectiveness of emergency contraceptive pills, commonly known as the morning-after pill or MAP, is greatest when taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex or a contraceptive accident. As for when to take a pregnancy test after taking MAP, it depends on the type of MAP you used.

1. Ulipristal acetate (ellaOne®):

- If you take ellaOne® within 24 hours of unprotected sex, you can take a pregnancy test 3 weeks (21 days) after the intercourse in question.

- If you take ellaOne® between 24 and 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex, you should take a pregnancy test 4 weeks (28 days) after the intercourse.

2. Levonorgestrel (Plan B, EContra EZ, etc.):

- If you take a levonorgestrel-based MAP (Plan B, etc.) within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected sex, it's recommended to take a pregnancy test 3 weeks (21 days) after the intercourse.

Remember that these timelines are based on general recommendations, and individual circumstances may vary. It's essential to carefully read and follow the instructions provided with your specific MAP for accurate information on when to take a pregnancy test. If you have concerns about the effectiveness of the MAP or interpreting your pregnancy test results, it's always best to consult with a healthcare professional.
