What does pap smear test do and why females need it?
Pap Smear Test: A screening procedure used to detect precancerous or cancerous cells in the cervix, the opening to the uterus from the vagina.
Necessity for Females:
1. Early Detection of Cervical Cancer: Regular pap smear tests allow for the early detection of abnormal cells before they progress into invasive cancer. This greatly increases the chances of successful treatment.
2. Detection of Precancerous Changes: Pap smears can identify potential precancerous conditions, such as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). By identifying these changes, timely intervention can be taken to prevent cancer development.
3. Monitoring Effectiveness of Treatment: If someone is being treated for a precancerous condition or cervical cancer, pap smear tests are used to monitor the effectiveness of the treatment over time.
