What can you do if your throat hurts?

Here are some tips for managing a sore throat:

Gargle with Warm Saltwater: Saltwater helps reduce inflammation and soothe irritated throat tissues. Mix half to one teaspoon of salt into eight ounces of warm water and gargle for 30 seconds, repeating every few hours.

Stay Hydrated: Drinking enough fluids helps thin mucus, keeping your throat moist and preventing dryness. Choose soothing liquids like warm water, tea, and broths.

Use a Humidifier: A humidifier adds moisture to the air, which can help soothe a dry and scratchy throat. Use it in your bedroom, especially at night.

Suck on Lozenges or Hard Candy: These can provide temporary relief by stimulating saliva production and easing throat discomfort.

Avoid Irritants: Common irritants like cigarette smoke, dust, air pollution, and spicy or acidic foods can worsen throat pain. Minimize exposure to these triggers if possible.

Honey and Lemon Remedy: Mix two tablespoons of honey with a tablespoon of lemon juice in warm water. Honey has soothing and antibacterial properties, while lemon juice provides vitamin C.

Herbal Teas: Chamomile, peppermint, or ginger teas have calming effects on the throat. You can add honey for additional relief.

Rest: Adequate rest allows the body to recover and focus on healing.

If your sore throat lasts more than a week or is severe, consult a doctor. They can determine the underlying cause and recommend appropriate treatments, including antibiotics if it's a bacterial infection.
