What does Biapical Emphysema mean?
Biapical emphysema is a condition in which the air sacs (alveoli) at the tops of the lungs are damaged and enlarged. This causes difficulty breathing, wheezing, and coughing. Biapical emphysema is often caused by smoking, but it can also be caused by other factors such as genetics, air pollution, and occupational exposure to certain chemicals.
Symptoms of biapical emphysema include:
* Difficulty breathing
* Wheezing
* Coughing
* Shortness of breath
* Fatigue
* Weight loss
* Blue-tinted lips or fingernails
Treatment for biapical emphysema includes:
* Smoking cessation
* Medications to open the airways (bronchodilators)
* Medications to reduce inflammation (steroids)
* Oxygen therapy
* Lung surgery (in severe cases)
