Lesser Known Symptoms of ADD

Most people are familiar with the telltale sign of a person with attention deficit disorder (ADD), which is inattention or a lack of focus. Unlike its counterpart, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), ADD does not include hyperactivity or impulsiveness as symptoms. Some of the lesser-known symptoms of ADD are as specific as bedwetting and sloppy homework.
  1. Bedwetting

    • Bedwetting is a lesser-known symptom of ADD. While there is no evidence that ADD causes bedwetting or that bedwetting causes ADD, children with ADD are more likely to wet the bed.

    Dawdling

    • A child with ADD can take 15 minutes to slide on a pair of boots. Parents might believe the child is being defiant or just plain lazy, but the dawdling is actually a symptom of the ADD.

    Misplacing Items

    • People with ADD may frequently misplace or lose necessary items, like their shoes (or only one shoe).

    Selective Concentration

    • Many people believe that someone with ADD is unable to concentrate on any task. Actually, a person with ADD can concentrate on tasks he enjoys, but has trouble concentrating otherwise.

    Sloppy Homework

    • Children with ADD often make numerous errors in their homework. They might forget to bring books home, do the wrong assignment, or repeatedly do an assignment incorrectly.
