How to Treat ADD with Adderall
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is a condition suffered by children around the world, and one that can become chronic and lifelong if not treated early. Recent statistics illustrate that as many as 60 percent of those who deal with ADD will continue to do so into adulthood. Severe ADD is often treated using medications like Adderall. Adderall is an amphetamine/dextroamphetamine-based medication used to treat ADD.Things You'll Need

Treat ADD with Adderall
-
1
Monitor doses of Adderall carefully, as the drug carries the potential for dependency. Do not take Adderall more often than prescribed by your doctor, and if you feel that you are beginning to develop a dependency, speak to your doctor immediately.
-
2
Begin taking an Adderall dosage regimen first thing in the morning unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor.
-
3
Space dosages of Adderall roughly 4 to 6 hours apart. It is a good idea, however, to not take Adderall less than 6 hours prior to bedtime, as it can cause difficulty in falling asleep.
-
4
Speak to your doctor if you notice any change in the efficacy of Adderall on your ADD symptoms. Sometimes your body will build a resistance to the drug and make it work to a much lesser degree. If this happens, you and your doctor can discuss changing the dosage amount or the dosage intervals, or you can discuss the option of choosing an entirely different medication to treat your ADD.
-
5
Let your doctor know immediately if you experience some more severe side effects. For example, rashes or increase in heart rate can be indicative of an allergic reaction to the medication. Find out from your doctor what side effects you may expect to suffer from based on your medical history.
-
6
Be very careful when taking the drug in situations where you may be required to drive or operate machinery. Dizziness is sometimes a side effect of taking Adderall, so learn how the drug will affect you before you begin resuming your normal routines.
