What Is Premature Adrenarche?
Premature adrenarche (PA) is a rare condition in which the adrenal glands, located above the kidneys, start producing sex hormones (androgens) too early, usually before the age of 8 in girls and 9 in boys. This can lead to early physical changes that are normally associated with puberty, such as the growth of pubic hair, the development of breasts in girls, and an increase in muscle mass in boys. While PA is not typically harmful and does not always require treatment, it can cause psychological distress and impact a child's growth and development.ADHD - Related Articles
