What type of disorder is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that includes symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. ADHD can be classified into three types:

1. Predominantly Inattentive Presentation (ADHD-PI): This type of ADHD is characterized primarily by symptoms of inattention, including difficulty paying attention, being easily distracted, and making careless mistakes. Hyperactivity and impulsivity may be present, but they are not as severe as in the other types of ADHD.

2. Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation (ADHD-HI): This type of ADHD is characterized primarily by symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity, including fidgeting, talking excessively, interrupting others, and having difficulty waiting their turn. Inattention may be present, but it is not as severe as in the other types of ADHD.

3. Combined Presentation (ADHD-C): This type of ADHD is characterized by significant symptoms of both inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity. Individuals with ADHD-C may have difficulty paying attention, being easily distracted, and making careless mistakes, as well as fidgeting, talking excessively, interrupting others, and having difficulty waiting their turn.
