Signs & Symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder in Adults

Attention deficit disorder is typically associated with children, but it affects adults as well. Some people with this disorder are not diagnosed until they are adults, but then realize they have had it since childhood.
  1. Concentration

    • Adults with attention deficit disorder might have extreme problems with concentration. They might find it easier to concentrate when juggling different tasks, or when music or a television is playing in the background.

    Procrastination

    • Continual procrastination and problems adhering to deadlines are other symptoms of adult attention deficit disorder. These individuals typically start several tasks and have problems finishing any of them.

    Disorganization

    • Adults with attention deficit disorder tend to be very disorganized. Their office and home can be unusually cluttered, and the disorganization can lead to errors at work.

    Impulsivity

    • Along with disorganization and procrastination, impulsive behavior can lead to financial problems. Adults with attention deficit disorder might spend too much, have difficulty keeping track of their checkbook, pay bills late and forget how much they have charged on a credit card.

    Relationship Problems

    • Relationships also can be troublesome for adults with attention deficit disorder. They might have trouble listening, impulsively make impolite comments and routinely forget important occasions.
