1
Slacken all the straps connected to the head harness. Rest your chin in the pocket of the face-plate and gently press the face-plate against your face.
-
2
Pull the head harness over the back of your head using the donning tabs. Secure the gas mask into place by pulling the following tabs in sequential order: forehead straps; cheek straps; temple straps. Your ears should be between the cheek and temple straps.
-
3
Block the openings at the bottom of the outlet valve with the palm of your hand and breathe out with enough force so that air is pressed out of the sides of the gas mask. Using the palm of your hand again, cover the inlet port of the canister and inhale. These two procedures should create an air tight seal that prevents airborne toxins and chemicals from entering the mask.

4
Access the external drinking tube by placing pressure on the outlet valve and securing the internal drinking tube with your teeth. A quick connect coupling will then be released on the outside of the mask. Insert the coupling into the canteen and blow air to create pressure. When you cease blowing, the built up pressure will allow the liquid to flow as if drinking from a straw.
