How does someone contract measles?
Measles is a highly contagious respiratory illness caused by a virus. It is spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. If you breathe in some of these droplets, you can become infected. You can also get measles if you come into contact with the saliva or mucus of an infected person.
Measles is most contagious in the 4 days before and 4 days after the rash appears. However, you can still spread the virus for up to 7 days after the rash appears.
Measles can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia, encephalitis, and death. It is important to get vaccinated against measles to protect yourself and your loved ones from this dangerous disease.
