How are some people allergic to grasshoppers?

Some people are allergic to grasshoppers because their bodies produce antibodies that recognize grasshopper proteins as foreign and harmful. When a person who is allergic to grasshoppers comes into contact with them, their immune system overreacts and produces histamine and other chemicals, which cause allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and difficulty breathing. In some cases, grasshopper allergies can also cause more serious symptoms, such as anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening.
