How to Decorate a Victorian Bed & Breakfast

A bed-and-breakfast, or B&B for short, is a small, usually independently-owned lodge featuring comfortable amenities and decor. B&B's sometimes feature aesthetic or historical themes, but incorporating a Victorian motif into your B&B can effectively combine aesthetics and history in one package, taking guests to a bygone era while recreating the style of Victorian England. Focus on elements like wallpaper, furniture, color scheme and other design features to create a Victorian B&B.

Instructions

    • 1

Decorate the walls with period wallpaper. Victorian wallpaper was distinct from modern tastes, and decorating the walls in this fashion will help complete the old-fashioned style of a room. Floral-type prints or ornamental Walter Crane-type wallpaper is typically Victorian.

    • 2

Furnish the B&B with Victorian antique pieces. Use elegant settees made of birch or mahogany instead of modern couches, and adorn them with plush, dark-colored pillows. Bedrooms should feature wide, low beds with canopies. Put ornately carved, heavy wooden tables with thick, carved legs in the dining room.

    • 3

Base interior design around strong and ornate detailing. Victorian rooms were often opulent and finely detailed. Marble fireplaces and heavy gold mirrors were standard accents. Incorporate the same accessories in your B&B's rooms.

    • 4

Lay the floors with antique carpets and rugs. Victorian style is distinguished by fanciful design, so put down brightly colored Oriental style carpets, or use antique floorcloths, which are hand-painted cloths in a variety of patterns.
