Probiotic Spores & Angioedema-Eosinophilia Syndrome

Angioedema-eosinophilia syndrome is a form of angioedema, an allergic reaction that most often occurs around the lips and eyes. While treatments vary, the use of probiotic spores is not generally indicated.
  1. Angioedema-eosinophilia Syndrome

    • Angioedema-eosinophilia is characterized by hives, sometimes accompanied by fever and muscle pain. Sometimes you may have trouble breathing. Angioedema-eosinophilia is considered an allergic reaction to certain foods or drugs, although sometimes the cause of an outbreak is unknown.

    Probiotic Spores

    • Probiotic spores are sold as aids to gastrointestinal health, although there are claims of their ability to enhance the immune system and treat allergies.

    Probiotic Spores for Angioedema-eosinophilia

    • Few clinical trials have been conducted on the use of probiotic spores for allergy treatment. If you have angioedema-eosinophilia, avoid known triggers, such as any suspected food or drugs. Your doctor may prescribe corticosteroids or epinephrine. Consult your health care practitioner if you are using or are considering using probiotic spores in your treatment. Never discontinue any medication that has been prescribed for you, and wear a bracelet to alert others to your condition. In a severe attack, you may lose the ability to speak or become unconscious. In the event of an attack, seek medical attention immediately.
