How to Make a Saline Nasal Solution
Saline solution is a salt water mixture commonly used for nasal irrigation. Periodic rinsing of the nasal cavity can help relieve symptoms of mucous buildup, swelling, congestion, sinus irritation and allergies. Saline nasal rinses are available for over-the-counter purchase, but they also can be made in the comfort of your home. This solution can be made fresh before each usage or in larger volume for storage up to a week.Things You'll Need
- 1 liter of distilled water
- Noniodized salt
- Baking soda

Prepare Fresh

Add 1/4 teaspoon of noniodized salt to 2 cups of distilled water.

Add a pinch of baking soda to cup of salt water and mix well before use.

Discard any remaining saline solution after use.
Prepare 1 Liter for 1 Week Storage

Add 2 to 3 tsp. of noniodized salt to a liter of distilled water.

Add 1 tsp. of baking soda to the salt water. Close the container and shake well to mix the solution.

Close tightly and store saline solution in a cool dark place, such as under the sink or in the refrigerator. The solution can be stored for up to a week.
