Symptoms of Dust Mite Exposure

Dust mites are one of the prime causes of many health discomforts. Many people do not consider this possibility because dust mites are often associated with being dirty and unkempt. Beds, sofas and pillows are the No. 1 place that dust mites reside, and nobody is immune to their existence. Knowing the symptoms of dust mite exposure can help you determine how to minimize the attacks.

Sneezing

• Many people will have an allergic reaction to unseen dust mites. If you often sneeze while you are cleaning, there is a strong possibility that you are one of many people allergic to dust mites.

Itching

• Itchy skin and eyes, along with dry patches of eczema outbreaks, can be indicators of dust mite exposure. Although these same symptoms can be the result of other contact allergies, keep track of when these episodes occur. If you're waking up itchy in the mornings, or your eyes are watering and red during cleaning, it could be the result of dust mites that are embedded in your linens or on your furniture.

Respiratory Problems

• At its worst, dust mite symptoms might disturb breathing patterns. Shortness of breath, wheezing and lung congestion usually indicate an asthmatic response that might have been triggered by an allergen. In many cases, the allergen is dust mites.
