What Is Omnaris Nasal Spray?

Omnaris nasal spray is a prescription medication containing the corticosteroid ciclesonide. It is used to treat the symptoms of seasonal allergies, commonly called hay fever. Omnaris can relieve nasal congestion, runny nose and sneezing.

Function

• Omnaris nasal spray, like other corticosteroids, suppresses immune system response by preventing the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation.

Dosage

• The typical dosage for Omnaris nasal spray is two sprays once daily into each nostril. The medication should not be used in larger amounts or for longer than prescribed.

Common Side Effects

• The most common side effects associated with Omnaris include headache, nosebleed or nasal lining irritation, sore throat and ear pain.

Caution

• Systemic side effects are unlikely, but possible if the patient uses too much of this drug. They include acne, facial puffiness, increased facial and body hair growth, increased perspiration, irregular menstruation and rapid weight gain.

Contraindications

• People with certain health conditions may not be able to safely use Omnaris. These include asthma, glaucoma, tuberculosis or other lung infection, or nose conditions such as an open sore inside the nostrils or a recent nose injury.
